After a devastating loss, Cindy Riehl is still searching for peace. Will she find it in the community she calls home—or will love send her down a new path?
Over the last few years, Cindy Riehl—the youngest of the Riehl children—has watched her siblings find love and happiness in Lancaster County. But as her family has settled down and grown, Cindy has continued to grieve her mother, whose death left an enormous hole in her heart. Since that haunting day, Cindy has struggled to find peace and wonders if the community is the place for her—and if her faith in God will ever feel the same as it once did.
When a handsome and kind Englisher named Drew crosses Cindy’s path one surprising day, the two of them become fast and easy friends. Drew dreams of starting a family after some losses of his own, and before long, he and Cindy discover that their feelings for each other are romantic. As they spend more time together—often in secret—Cindy is drawn further and further away from the Amish community and the family she loves. In time, she is faced with a difficult choice that threatens to upend her world.
Will Cindy find contentment and love, and will she ever find restored comfort in God and her beloved community? In this final installment of the Amish Homestead series, we return to the charming town of Bird-in-Hand for a story of healing, family, and God’s perfect provision.

Author Q & A
1. What was your favorite part about writing A Welcome at Our Door?
A Welcome at Our Door is based on a true story that my Amish friend told me about her husband’s grandparents. I had so much fun fictionalizing the story and spending more time with my Riehl family, which is the family featured in the Amish Homestead series.

2. You've written so many amazing works! How has your writing changed over the novels?
I feel my writing has improved since I wrote A Gift of Grace, my first book. More than one of my editors has challenged me to add more emotion to my books, so I strive for deeper emotion in each story. I’ve learned so much from my editors, and I’m grateful that HarperCollins Christian Publishing still wants books for me.

3. What is the number-one most important theme you convey through your stories?
I believe it’s second chances. We all make mistakes, but no matter what, we’re forgiven and made new through Jesus Christ.

4. What is your favorite genre to read and does it affect your writing?
I love to read all genres, but young adult is my guilty pleasure. As long as there is a romance thread in the story, I will enjoy it. Since I work full-time and write several books per year, I like to listen to books through Audible on my phone while commuting to work and when I’m doing data entry at my day job. I study other authors and learn from them while I enjoy the story.

5. How do you do research for Amish novels?
I have a very dear Amish friend who answers all of my questions. She lives in Gordonville, PA, and I visit her at least once a year. I also speak to her on the phone frequently. I leave her a message on her voice mail, and she calls me back, normally within twenty-four hours, depending upon how busy she is. I try to keep my books as accurate to the culture as possible, but I sometimes take a little fictional license for the sake of the story.

6. How do you name your characters?
I purchased an Amish community directory at an Amish store in Lancaster County, PA. The directory includes family names, including the parents and the children. I like to peruse the directory and then pick names, which I keep on a list on my computer. I do my best to use new names, especially when choosing my main characters. I keep my favorite names for the main characters.

7. What is the hardest aspect of writing?
I think my biggest challenge is to keep my stories fresh and original, which is why the books in my new series will include topics I haven’t covered in my previous books. I try to write about issues that everyone can relate to since we all have lives filled with challenges. The Amish have the same problems we do, even though their culture is different from ours. They still face illness, loss, and heartache.
